Is laboring a punishment?

Seeing people working ridiculously hard to die, suicide, be alive but have their mental (almost) dead, I thought this problem can be solved by removing the labor itself.

Too much of anything is always harmful. Removing labor isn't the solution right now, not every labor work is automated, human labor is still needed in some way or the other.

Not always

Work in a prison as a prisoner? Yes, punishment
Work as unpaid community service? Yes, punishment
Job and in return you get money to eat, live in a house and have recreational stuff too? Not a punishment

I do think a lot of jobs can be taken by robots and then the economy is gonna have to change to a diff system if most people can't work cos robots
